Life After/At/Adjacent to BigCo (LAB) connects professionals designing their careers after BigCo (a.k.a. large corporations or other institutional structures, like government, academia, or media) with those still within BigCo and those also working in adjacent spaces.
Through thoughtfully curated experiences, LAB fosters meaningful conversations and collaboration to tackle the problems worth solving in our communities and country. It also aspires to lift people up, inspire them, and connect them with their purpose, enabling transformation across Canada’s business landscape.

Why Lab
Exists
Careers are messy and unpredictable … and getting more so every day.
Traditional career paths – like those our parents might have pursued – simply don’t exist anymore for everyone. It used to be true that you could graduate from school, join BigCo, and retire from that same place (or from another BigCo) if you chose to do so. Now, this career path is only true for a handful of people. The rest of us have learned that job security doesn’t exist, or traditional careers might not let us tap into everything we have to offer the world.
It can be daunting to choose a different path or to know where to start.
It can be an incredibly lonely journey, whether you’re at this turning point due to personal choice or because something has happened to you beyond your control. Inherently, we all crave community, belonging, and connection. LAB might be the community you’ve been looking for if you are in a personal and professional transition period.
We’re a community of passionate changemakers.
Some of us are fledglings in entrepreneurship, others are more established, but we all want to lift others and improve work. We want to transform ourselves and the world around us so that our work has purpose, intent, and impact.
Some of us are at BigCo, some of us have left BigCo (voluntarily or otherwise) and others have never worked at BigCo. While we are from different backgrounds, we have one thing in common. We’ve always been innovators at heart … people who have big ideas they want to bring to the world, and changes they want to empower in those around them.
